The program promises new sounds and virtuosic writing for the instruments.
Three of the works on the program are commissions, and four were completed in the last year. Two have political themes – Flynn, about Vietnam war and the US wars against Native Americans. Misurell-Mitchell’s piece plays with the ideas of Luigi Russolo in The Futurist Manifesto, exploring ideas of noise becoming music and vice versa.

The Stevens work is based on folk tunes found in the Old Town School of Folk Music songbook and was commissioned by the Old Town School, Chicago. The Raynovich work was commissioned by James Baur, the guitar player; written in variation form, it explores its musical ideas with the guitar in altered tunings.
